Endurance Estates identified the opportunity to deliver a food store on land off Harrison Way, St Ives. They identified that over 70% of residents carried out their food shopping outside St Ives which reduced the possibility of linked trips to the High Street.
Endurance Estates appointed Blue Sky Planning retail specialists (since merged with Montagu Evans) to make a specialist planning case to promote the land for a food store. The site had its challenges given it was in an area of potential flooding and a design was evolved that put the car parking on the ground floor and the food store at the first floor. A planning application was submitted after extensive public consultation which saw local residents vote favourably for the provision of much needed new retail choice in St Ives.
Following the grant of planning consent, the site was sold to Morrisons supermarket who by modifying the planning permission are constructing what will be one of the few out of town retail stores to be constructed in the UK in recent years. This will generate over 350 jobs and provide choice for local residents.
